Imani's Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Pastor Cummings has accepted the position of Executive Director of Oakland Community Organizations (OCO).

His acceptance of the Executive Director position is consistent with the service he has already been providing as the Co-Chair of the OCO Board of Directors for the last 8 years, Co-Chair of the Oakland Ceasefire Steering Committee, Race Equity Officer for People Improving Communities through Organizing (PICO) California, and member of the PICO National Board of Directors. Pastor Cummings' position of Executive Director at OCO is effective October 1st.

The Imani Board is excited for this announcement, and have extended their congratulations to our Pastor when we received the news a few days ago.

Pastor Cummings will continue to serve as Senior Pastor of Imani Community Church.

Pastor Cummings is still on his well-deserved sabbatical until the end of this month. In the weeks to come, the Board will be working with Pastor Cummings to ensure a seamless continuation of pastoral duties, services and activities to support our congregation while he continues his work with OCO.

Pastor Cummings is familiar with being bi-vocational.  Rev served as Imani's Senior Pastor as well as Professor and Academic Dean at American Baptist Seminaries of the West in Berkeley for Imani's first 12 years.

We encourage all members to attend our Annual Congregation Meeting on Saturday, November 18 at 9AM, where we will provide additional details on how we will support Rev and this change. In the meantime, you may provide any feedback, questions or concerns you may have anonymously. Click here:

We are looking forward to Pastor Cummings' continued leadership at Imani and in our community.

Congratulations, Rev!
